U14Bs vs Solihull

38 – 17

An excellent performance building on all the promising aspects of the first match last week and eliminating some of the negatives.

The match got off to a much better start with Denstone not conceding an early try and on the front foot immediately. Denstone were first to the break down rucking extremely well and not giving the opponents any space or time.

Their effort was duly rewarded when Charlie Ehlen forced the ball over from a ruck after some super play from the backs with Max Housten and Ed Bedson being instrumental in this. This was quickly followed up with a wonderful try from Tom Franks, jinking his way through several tackles to start of a move, which he finished off two phases later after some excellent work from the Denstone Pack.

John Nicklin then got his rewards for an outstanding first half performance breaking through a big set of Solihull forwards to run in a try from just inside the opposition half. Captain, Max Houston, organized the back line superbly and made a telling contribution throughout the match with some excellent conversion kicking. Denstone were visibly tiring towards the end of the first half and conceded a try on the wing with 5 minutes to go. The score could have been much closer had it not been for a super tackle by Jake Watson.

Denstone regrouped and started the second half well keeping the Solihull boys at bay for the first 10 minutes. However, a couple of injuries led to the opponents scoring again through the middle of a tiring pack. Tom Gray came on to tighten things up in the second row with Ollie White and Barney Britton also freshening things up on the wings. Tom had an immediate impact running in two great tries after great work at the break down. Although Solihull scored another try Denstone were not going to let this one slip and another converted try for Max Houston ensured they got the victory they deserved. Overall an excellent performance.

Tries from John Nicklin, Tom Franks, Charlie Ehlen and Tom Gray.

Conversions from Max Houston.

Player of the match went to John Nicklin.
